Kyoga Coffee Plant — ESIA for Redevelopment

Client: UGACOF / Sucafina Uganda

Location: Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, Uganda

The Challenge

Large-scale coffee processing expansion risks significant environmental and social impacts—water quality degradation from processing effluent, air and noise pollution, waste generation, and potential community displacement. Securing NEMA approval and stakeholder acceptance requires rigorous impact assessment and binding commitment to environmental stewardship.

Our Role

Earth Partners led a 7-person multidisciplinary team to assess impacts across biophysical and socio-economic dimensions, engage affected communities, and design an Environmental and Social Management Plan.

What We Delivered

  • Baseline Environmental Surveys: Water quality testing, soil assessment, air quality and noise baselines

  • Hydrological Assessment: Water availability analysis for processing operations and community needs

  • Waste Management Planning: Solid and liquid waste volume projections; treatment and disposal solutions

  • Stakeholder Consultation: Interviews and workshops with local communities, District authorities, and water resources managers

  • Impact Prediction & Mitigation: Identified risks and designed mitigation measures for construction and operational phases

  • Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP): Binding framework for environmentally sound, socially acceptable operation

  • Compliance Documentation: NEMA application support and regulatory alignment
