The assignment sought to assess the potential impact of the proposed project on the biophysical and socio-economic environment. It entailed consultations with potentially affected persons, water resources assessment of a relatively small catchment but intensively under human utilization for agriculture and settlement.
The assessment considered generation and management of large volumes of solid and wastewater and modification of the general land-use systems and attendant effects during the construction and operational phases of the project. The project activities were guided by the following objectives;
- Provide a detailed description of the proposed development project,
- Acquire baseline data on the physical, biological and socio-economic setting of the proposed project,
- Predict and evaluate potential environmental and social impacts likely to result from the proposed project,
- Identify feasible and cost-effective mitigation measures for significant impacts identified, and
- Develop an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) to guide environmental and social management of the project during implementation.
